GAYLORD KALANI HOLOMALIA

Award–Winning Musician, Producer, Engineer, Songwriter and Studio Manager

He is currently the keyboardist of the ground breaking band Kalapana. He was also a member of the seminal 70s band Country Comfort, and has recorded and performed with C&K, Brother Noland, Olomana, Henry Kapono and the Mackey Feary Band. Beginning in 1983, Gaylord has added engineeer to his resume. The albums he has engineered are those of Hawaii’s top recording artists including Don Ho, Israel Kamakawiwo‘ole, Genoa Keawe, The Makaha Sons, Eddie Kamae, Keali‘i Reichel, C&K, Na Leo, the Kamehameha Elementary School Choir and many others. Gaylord has also worked on projects for international artists, including Dr. Dre, Kanye West, Eddie Vedder, JayZ, Beyonce, Tetsuya Komuro, Justin Beiber, Crosby, Stills & Nash, Marvin Gaye, and Globe, Tube, Kiyotaka Sugiyama from Japan. He manages Island Sound Studios, formerly known as Avex Honolulu Studios, arguably one of the finest recording studios in the Pacific. His duties include; booking the 2 recording rooms, calling and speaking to propective clients, coordinating or assisting in travel, local transportation and acommodations on Oahu, maintenance of all equipment, work schedules for local help and promoting Hawaii as the ultimate location to record. Gaylord has won numerous Na Hoku Hanohano Awards including five for Engineer of the Year (“Makaha Bash 3, Live from the Shell” by the Makaha Sons of Ni‘ihau, “Blue Album” by Kalapana, “Slack Key Songs of the Ponomoe” by Kapono Beamer, “Many Classics” by Kalapana and Cecilio and Kapono. And in 1997 he won the Album of the Year for producing “In Dis Life” with Israel Kamakawiwo‘ole. He also won gold and platinum albums for Crosby, Stills and Nash’s “Daylight Again” album. He also manages concert tours for the band Kalapana and produces audio and visual products for many of Hawaii’s top artists. Including the PBS Na Mele Series, KHNL’s Hot Hawaiian Nights, and Eddie Kamae’s “Keepers of the Flame” and “Lahaina”. In the nineties he coordinated an event in Tokyo with Prime Direction Inc., a subsidary of Avex, one of Japan’s biggest music companies. The event was made up of Hawaii top musicians including, Kalapana, Na Leo Pilimehana, Teresa Bright, The Peter Moon Band and Cyril Pahinui. Arranging and paying for the booking of airfares, contacting and coordinating schedules for 26 musicians. Also doing the same for Kalapana’s tours on a yearly basis to Japan for the last 22 years and to the Philippines, Samoa, Guam, Micronesia and the mainland for 25 years.
